City finishes $19.5M in rehabs of two schools

The NYC School Construction Authority, on March 4, formally completed two rehabilitation projects, totaling $19.5 million, of school buildings in Coney Island and the Bronx.

The first plans, pre-filed on September 23, 2014, call for a rehab of the cellar, roof, and all floors of a 37-foot tall, three-story building at 2929 West 30th Street in Coney Island.

The project is described in the filings as: filing for installation and removal of low pressure steam boilers, chiller plant, and related piping. Removal and installation of duct work, radiators, and controls. Removal and installation of water and gas piping & fixtures. See section 24 The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $11,005,000.

On the same day, the NYC SCA completed an $8.5 million project to convert a school from oil to gas at 1300 Boynton Avenue in Bronx.

The plans, pre-filed on October 28, 2015, call for work on all floors of the 95-foot tall, five-story building.

The project is described in the filings as: remove four existing boilers and appurtenances. Remove two #6 fuel oil tanks. Install four 231hp, gas-fired, low pressure steam, firebox boilers. Replace boiler feed unit, vacuum pump, piping, etc. replace climate control system. Replace gas service and create an indoor gas meter room. The initial cost as reported in the DOB filing for the work described in this permit application is $8,500,000.
