City files plans for 135-unit mixed-use building, part of 740-unit Peninsula
New York City Economic Development Corporation, on November 5, filed a permit application for construction of a 135-unit, 129,277-square-foot mixed-use building at 1201 Spofford Avenue in Hunts Point, the Bronx.
The building is part of the redevelopment of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center into The Peninsula, a five-building, 740-unit mixed-use campus.
Gilbane Development Company, the Hudson Companies, and Mutual Housing Association of New York are behind the redevelopment.
The plans call for the construction of a 181-foot tall, 16-story mixed-use building.
The project is described in the filings as: filing herewith new mixed-use building as per plans.
The building will have parking space for 112 cars, per the plans filed. The cellar will have community space, an office, and staff room. The ground floor will have a playroom, exercise room, amenity room, lobby, lounge, and outdoor tenant areas. Floors two through 16 will each have nine dwelling units per floor.
WXY + Architecture + Urban Design is listed as the architect.
The larger project involves three phases, with the completion of phase 1 by 2021 and completion of the entire project by 2024.
